It is with this vision in mind, that we created Mentella Consulting. In our community we are dedicated to providing educational communities with the best programming that research has to offer. We provide not only personalized training to meet your unique needs, but also maintenance, and proper implementation. This ensures that programming is installed in your schools efficiently and effectively with outstanding results. We want to see a world where all children are able to live their full potential, regardless of the obstacles they may be faced with. Mentella is here to support and activate change!
CASEL best practices provide us with highly adaptable, yet specific interventions, education and research to achieve a five year implementation process.
The first year is focused on strategic planning for your school. Finding the best target goals to achieve success while also planning with current community members to ensure that it fits the needs, ethics and values of your institution.
Year two includes adult training, implementation and materials to educate adults, transform minds and build growth mindsets.
Year three focuses on classroom management with SEL implementation and classroom best practices. This will be in combination with your current programming, as is provided only if needed.
Finally, in our last two years we focus on community engagement, parents and family, followed by maintenance and adjustment.
Trauma Informed Care
Trauma-informed schools have become essential to successfully addressing the broadening spectrum of adverse childhood experiences. More than half of all young people have reported exposure to violence or abuse, and by the age of 16, more than two thirds will have experienced a potentially traumatic event. Adverse childhood experiences (ACES) can impact a child’s cognitive abilities and impede their development, which limits their academic potential. With the right support, children and young adults can successfully process adverse events and go on to thrive. Schools are the single point of connection between home life and community dynamics, and the responsibility of educators to prepare young people to function successfully in the world as adults can only be bolstered with a trauma-sensitive approach. In fact, when schools are trauma-informed, students cultivate lasting resilience, which leads to: Significant improvements in behavior Fewer suspensions Fewer expulsions Significant improvements in academic achievement
Restorative Practices
Restorative justice empowers students to resolve conflicts on their own and in small groups, and it's a growing practice at schools around the country. Essentially, the idea is to bring students together in mediated small groups to talk, ask questions, and air their grievances.
For the growing number of districts using restorative justice, the programs have helped strengthen campus communities, prevent bullying, and reduce student conflicts. And the benefits are clear: early-adopting districts have seen drastic reductions in suspension and expulsion rates, and students say they are happier and feel safer.
